As seen this morning in Belltown. No Touching Ground’s latest work. Couldn’t agree more. (Click to view Large)
Continuing from Sunday’s post, here are the shots from the Cape Blanco Lighthouse. It was sort of by accident we ended up here, finding the campsite after dark after driving for a few more hours longer than we hoped.
We were certain the campground was full, but it was not only half empty, we woke up to find there was an awesome historic lighthouse to visit (for only $3!) and a restored Victorian home to tour (pictures later.)
“This isolated lighthouse holds at least four Oregon records: it is the oldest continuously operating light, the most westerly, it has the highest focal plane above the sea, (256 feet), and Oregon’s first woman keeper, Mabel E. Bretherton signed on in March 1903.” According to the website.
The light signal is sent out via this Fresnel lens (1). It was INCREDIBLE. Highly psychedelic with prisms spinning around. Wait until I get the video up here. (6) The whole thing is rotated with this little motor, not even half the size of a car motor.
(2) My travel companion and our friendly tour guide.
Death is all around us… apparently on vacation, too!
I took these during a (semi-)impromptu road trip down to California with my good friend Zack in early August. We spent the briefest moment in the Redwoods; driving down the coast via Hwy 101, blasting drone and free jazz, felt like the main focus.
1) Dead bird outside Cape Blanco, Oregon lighthouse. The tour guide informed us birds constantly fly into the windows and die. The “No Walking in Tall Grass” signs made a lot more sense when, after several squeals of disgust from other passing tourists, the tour guide removed the bird with his bare hands and threw it in the tall, unmowed grass.
2) Some dead “thing” near a parking lot of the saddest beach I’ve ever seen, in N. California. Seems someone combined different dead animals to make this.
3) Dead trees were numerous through a section of our hike in S. Oregon up to the Oregon Caves Monument due to a tree disease. Unfortunately, based on the signs and looks of the area, the outcome seems grim.
Production meeting over tea and bread with Chandly.
We’re in the middle of shooting a tribute of sorts for a Dr. Dre classic music video.
Also, I’m proud of this picture because it was taken with my shitty free cell phone.
This past week, the Seattle “music scene” has been a hot topic due to the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind… sorta. More like a lot of history worshiping and half-assed journalism (yes… because our entire patchwork-like music scene - which more appropriately would be scenes - is totally represented by the Head and the Heart *eye roll*). For example, the NYT wrote an article with corresponding video, and in one brief blip at the very end mentions how if you “know where to look” you can still find the good stuff — stuff that makes your heart beat fast like grunge did or whatever.
So here ya go folks! This is a video of some of the louder bands the NW can boast of having “20 years later”. I’m not saying this is a straight out representation of our current music scene (hell no, we also have an amazing noise/experimental/avant garde scene here, amongst others), but these are six pretty rocking bands.
